Lucky enough have in my garage one of the first 2016 Subaru WRX STI Premium to land down under.

Let’s just say I  know I like driving my car when I’m volunteering to go get the kids from school pickup.

The 15k drive out to my local state forest is as good as getting the MTB out of the boot and riding the trails.

Yes, you read it. You can have best of both worlds. WRX + MTB. A 29’er fits in the boot with wheels removed & 1/3 rear seat split down. Even better I can make the drive to the airport with a Bike Bag, 2 x large suit cases and 2 x people (both rear seats folded down).

How’s it drive: Sticks like glue and gives you a turbo punch in the kidney’s once past 3000rpm.

Changes for 2016 WRX STI model are centered around a new larger touch screen display which includes Starlink to hook up the iPhone. Accessing phones internet connection. If you use Pandora you’re in luck.

Also new electronic additions: Subaru Vision assist for lane changing & rear cross traffic alerts, auto high beam, headlight dimming. Plus the alarm system has been simplified, long gone is that annoying chirp when remote locking / opening and the 2015 WRX STI internal motion sensors have been removed so I can leave the windows down a little on those 30c+ Queensland days without the alarm screaming.

2.5 litre turbo has more than enough punch. It’s more comfortable on the clutch cruising around town in the WRX STI’s dulled down I-mode til reaching roads that you can open the throttle on.
