It was 2011 and the GoPro wasn’t a house hold name on every kids Christmas list as it is today.

I was had started mucking around with an original GoPro Hero at home that summer so strapped it on my bike for the first ITU race of the season at Mooloolaba.

And this is footage I recorded. The first ever from inside the ITU draft legal triathlon pack.

FLASHBACK: I get a kick out of trying to be the first to explore new things.

My second attempt was here at the Sydney ITU World Championship Series race a few weeks later. Following that video the ITU put a stop to cameras aboard bikes in races due to TV rights….unless you handed over the SD card to them.

These days in ITU racing permission is granted once again to allow cameras on bikes but only to be used for personal use. Great for course recon and post race evaluation and skills development.
