Flashback: The end of an era for Australian Triathlon.
2004. The last race of the F1 Grand Prix format. A time when triathlon streamed live into living rooms of Australian’s any given Sunday.
Where the golden generations of Australian triathletes perfected their craft. Attracting the best global athletes to test themselves against the benchmarks down under.
As a kid I watched the great battles of Brad (Croc) Bevan, Greg Welch and Miles Stewart, Chris McCormack. Wanting to emulate. Amazing what profile and heroes contribute to a sport.
The Olympic Connection
Fitting that the end of the F1 triathlon was at the Opera House, Sydney. The iconic scene that hosted the first Olympic Games Triathlon in 2000. Won coincidently by F1 International competitor Canadian Simon Whitfield.
