QUEENSLAND’S STILL THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE
Not that I’m complaining about a Queensland winter. But the last week has been a bit chilly. Dipping into the single digits for the 5:30am starts.
I know what you’re going to say…but relative is relative, right? While down south at Perisher they are head deep in white powder, us Queenslander’s start thinking about salvaging that pair of gloves from two years ago buried deep in the back of the wardrobe.
Nothing beats a few creature comforts to help get out of the house in the dark, cold hours of the morning. I’ve noticed these are my 3 go to gear items.
1. THE GOOD OLD UGGS
A-Grade Australian Merino sheepskin! An investment (unless you’re a kid a your foot size changes yearly…that’s expensive) Thank god some hot model wore them on a catwalk somewhere at fashion week that one time. Now excusable to duck into the shops with Uggs on the way home from running.
PRO: just like underwear for your feet
CON: sucks taking them off swapping for runners before jumping out of the car
2. LEATHER SEAT WARMERS
The Subaru STI’s seat heaters take around 20 seconds to take the goosebumps away from this ‘short’ short wearing runner on a dark morning.
PRO: Seriously could be one of the best inventions ever!
CON: The old summer prank of the passenger turning them on HI without you knowing.
3. MIZU V5 STEEL INSULATED BOTTLE
In the past I’ve opted for vacuumed sealed carriers or bottles. Having a flip lid for guzzling down a hot morning brew on the run. But being a fan of the Mizu steel water bottles for hiking I decided to go back to basics and buy a 500ml screw top V5.
Mizu V5: drop proof (but dents if thrown), holds great heat and I’m no longer slurping out of a small un-ergonomical hole. Prolongs both hot and cold drinks as a bonus.
PRO: If I don’t finish the coffee on way to training the V5 still holds good temperature 2 hours later (If you trust the milk?)
