THE REDBACK MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE
ALICE SPRINGS – A.K.A THE RED CENTRE
In 2015 I saw a couple of mates posting pics on Facebook riding through these rocky outcrop trails. Alice Springs? The what… RedBack? Isn’t Alice just flat desert? So I quietly penciled it in as an event to one day experience.
2016…the dates are free in my calendar. Here we come. By we I mean also along for the trip my better half Kinga (@awolfamily) towing me around exploring the Red Centre between stages.
Here’s the quick version of the 4-day story.
Now some quick facts I learnt:
- Ayres Rock is a bloody long way from Alice Springs (456km by car) just fly! (I’ll do it another time)
- Alice Springs surrounds is not just red dirt…or flat! Rocky mountains every direction you look.
- Some amazing places to see within 150km of town (check the pics)
- There is 100’s of kilometres of the sweet, rocky, local handmade trails to ride or run. To believe it you have to experience it for yourself.
